Visual Effects & Extras: Floating Coins, Confetti, Themes & Story Mode

Labs has a playful visual layer on top of the chat. Here's what everything is — and what's customizable.

The floating coins (idle particles)

If you leave the chat untouched for about 20 seconds, small coins, gems, and pink stars start drifting gently up the screen. These idle particles are purely decorative:

  • They're not tappable and don't award Coins — just ambiance while you're away.
  • Only a few appear at a time, and any activity (moving the mouse, typing, scrolling) clears them instantly.
  • They pause automatically when the tab is in the background.

There's no setting for them — they simply appear when the chat is idle and vanish when you're back.

Confetti celebrations

Confetti fires on the good moments: level-ups, mystery box opens, big wheel spins, and special event wins. Two Store upgrades make it fancier:

  • Upgraded Confetti (level 50) — confetti colored to your tier.
  • Cinematic Level-Up (level 70) — a full-screen ceremony when you level up.

Labs respects your device's reduced motion setting for celebration effects.

Ambient particles (plugin)

Separate from the idle coins, the Ambient Particles plugin (level 50, in the Store's Effects category) adds a subtle, always-on particle background to your chat. The community chat room has its own ambient styling too.

Themes, sounds, and sidekicks

All from the Store:

  • Themes — restyle all of Labs: the Core pack (Dark, Neon, Paper), Cyberpunk and Playful sets, and animated premium themes like Aurora and Sunset.
  • Sound packs — Retro or Zen UI sounds and ambient audio.
  • Sidekicks — a floating pet coin (level 20) or a named companion (level 50) that hangs out in your chat and reacts to events.
  • Widget skins & icon packs — restyle your sidebar.

Story Mode

Occasionally, Labs runs Story Mode events — cinematic, full-screen chat adventures with their own narrator, interactive mechanics (codes to crack, choices to make), and a slot-style reward finale. They appear automatically when an event is live; starting a New conversation exits any active story.

Emoji and reactions

In community chat, the Message Reactions plugin (level 5) lets you react with emoji. The Classic pack is free; the Animated Emoji Pack adds animated reactions.
